Event Assured Corporate
We have been advising corporate event organisers and their clients for over 20 years. In that time we have arranged cover for a wide range of events from breakfast meetings to global multi national, multi destination incentive programmes. These are just a few of the interesting situations our clients have faced, and which our insurance has covered:
- Terrorism 9/11 - we dealt with two cancelled events, including one which was due to take place in the World Trade Centre two weeks after 9/11
- Hurricanes - the destruction of a hotel and facilities on St Kitts and Nevis which caused the event to be relocated at a later date
- Aircraft grounded by snow in another country
- Planes going technical, and going nowhere
- Thunderstorms disrupting planned outdoor activities on an incentive programme
- Strikes by air crew
- Strikes by coach drivers
- A cruise ship which could not dock because of bad weather causing loss of the shore programme
- and of course - European airspace closed by a volcanic eruption in Iceland - now who expected that?
and there are more....
- The venue may not be available due to damage by fire, storm etc.
- The failure of key utilities or equipment such as power, heating, lighting, sound, kitchens, toilets, fire safety equipment, all of which have the potential to make the venue unavailable.
- Denial of access to the venue by emergency services
- Terrorism
- Adverse weather conditions disrupting air, sea and rail transport, or affecting outdoor activities.
- Strikes causing disruption to scheduled airline or airport services, or other public transport.
- Speakers or entertainers who fail to turn up due to illness, delays or other problems.
- Outbreaks of infectious diseases leading to quarantine or restricted access.
- Outbreaks of civil disorder, revolution, war etc. - This may also have indirect effects, for example by causing diversion of flights.
- Unforeseen political events such as coups or disputes with other countries causing withdrawal of visa facilities or closure of borders.
- Death of Head of State or a member of their family causing periods of official mourning.
- Inability to leave the venue at the planned time, which might incur penalties.
- Delay and disruption to travel arrangements leaving a group stranded at the airport by bad weather or technical problems. Who pays for the food and drink, entertainment and accommodation?
- Damage to property - your own or that belonging to the venue.
- Loss of enjoyment and motivation
- Loss of reputation - it may be necessary to incur expenses in order to preserve the reputation of the event for next time
- Critical journey times - i.e. serious delay to outbound travel meaning it's too late to reach the destination on time leading to effective abandonment of the event
- Reduced attendance due to some unforeseen event or "critical mass" non attendance meaning so many people are prevented from getting to the event that it has to be abandoned.
There are other examples, and you may well have had difficult situations in your own events.
