The BBC has been broadcasting a series on interesting insurance claims. On 13th November there was a special feature on how weather disrupted a series of country shows in 2008 and how Event Assured came to the rescue.

In  2008 Event Assured provided cover for Living Heritage Ltd, a company which organises some 12 country shows around England each year. Whilst they had previously had a problem with Foot and Mouth Disease, they had never before had an event totally disrupted by bad weather. However, all that changed in 2008, starting with their Hampshire Show on May Bank Holiday Monday, when our MD got an early wake up call from Heritage -"we are under water!". A loss adjuster was sent the same morning and started dealing with the crisis.

Two more events in September and November 2008 were similarly affected, and overall Heritage received payments of c. £180,000 in compensation for their disrupted events - what a year for bad weather!

With the terrible floods in Cumbria this month, this reminds us all of how unpredictable the English weather can be at any time of year. Event insurance can provide vital cover to keep outdoor events in business.
